When it came to making a plug-in hybrid version of the GLE, Mercedes-Benz made it easy for all of us. The GLE 450e is everything you love about GLE 450, just with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It even has the exact same price. In terms of looks, performance, and equipment, the differences between the two are barely noticeable, but the plug-in hybrid drivetrain still comes with some important differences. Impressive all-electric range and DC fast charging capability give you the ability to go for long periods without having to stop at a gas station. With a combined rating of 60 MPGe, the GLE 450e has managed to make the GLE class even more desirable.

What’s New For 2025
The only change to standard equipment for the GLE 450e for 2025 has been the addition of a fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication. The options list has grown as well, with four new MANUFAKTUR colors added. There is also a new MANUFAKTUR Signature Interior Package, which includes an extended Nappa leather interior with a choice of three colors, as well as headrest pillows and a number of cosmetic upgrades.

Advanced Drivetrain
The whole reason why the GLE 450e exists is to give GLE buyers the option of a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. The drivetrain includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, and it produces a combined 381 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. That’s slightly more horsepower and a lot more torque than the conventional six-cylinder GLE 450. The battery pack is good for 49 miles of all-electric range, which is more than enough for the daily driving needs of most people. For those people who need to drive further, the GLE 450e is capable of DC fast charging, something that not all plug-in hybrids can do. That means it can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. And even on a Level 2 charger installed in a home garage, it only takes 2.75 hours to fully charge from 0 to 100 percent.
Incredible Versatility
As a plug-in hybrid, the GLE 450e is exceptionally good as a commuter vehicle, while also avoiding the drawbacks of a pure electric vehicle. But the GLE 450e also comes with all of the strengths of the conventional model, things like a massive maximum cargo capacity of 74.9 cubic feet, or the hands-free power liftgate. With the high torque output of the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, the GLE 450e is uniquely adept at off-roading, especially when equipped with the available height-adjustable air suspension. Standard off-road equipment includes a dash display mode that shows steering angle, tilt angle, grade percentage, and more. There is also a “Transparent Hood” setting, which uses underbody cameras to show what is directly in front of the front wheels, helping you to better avoid obstacles.
Luxury Interior
The GLE 450e wouldn’t be a GLE without the blend of high tech and traditional luxury that Mercedes-Benz is known for. This means that things like dual-zone climate control, power front seats with memory, and a sunroof all come standard. There’s also one feature that’s unique to the GLE 450e, pre-entry climate control. When your vehicle is plugged in, you can turn on the climate control remotely (via the Mercedes me app), so that the cabin is already at your desired temperature when you step in. Conventional vehicles need to start the gasoline engine in order to accomplish this, and thus can’t precondition while parked in a garage, but this isn’t a problem for the GLE 450e. There is a long list of customization options as well, so you can get the upholstery material, color, and trim material that you want.
