About the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV
Few vehicles can boast a profile so instantly recognizable as the Mercedes-Benz G-Class after more than 40 years on the market. But the G-Class is an icon, and with very good reason, it combines offroad ability and luxury in a way that no other manufacturer has quite grasped. The G-Class contains all of the latest in technology, in exactly the way that you would expect from a Mercedes-Benz vehicle. And for all of the offroad ability and luxury packed into the G-Class, the sheer presence of it still needs to be mentioned. It’s a vehicle that announces your arrival like no other. Whatever you need it for, and where it’s happening, the G-Class is always the correct vehicle.
What the Critics Say
The G-Class is more than just an SUV, it’s now part of the culture. An aura has built up around it. The G-Class excels at going off-road, it comes with powerful engines, it’s a Mercedes-Benz — so there’s a lot of luxury and tech, and it’s recognizable in an instant.” — Kelley Blue Book
The 2025 G550 shares a silhouette and all-terrain competence with the spartan 1979 original, but its six-figure price tag, highly customizable nature, and a plethora of luxury gear push it close to the ultra-lux realm” — Car & Driver
What’s New for 2025
For 2025 G-Class got a new engine for 2025, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 with a mild hybrid system. This makes 443 horsepower, up from 416 horsepower in the outgoing model. The 2025 has also been redesigned to be more aerodynamic, although the changes to the grille and a-pillars are subtle, so as to retain the iconic G-Class character.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class Features

Incredible Capability
It probably comes as no surprise that the G-Class was originally developed as a military vehicle. This is often where really capable offroad vehicles come from, even if the G-Class is the only one that also serves as a high-end luxury vehicle. Power comes from a 443-horsepower inline-6 gasoline engine mated to a mild hybrid system. Permanent all-wheel drive is standard, and it comes with a highly advanced 9-speed automatic transmission and 2-speed transfer case that help give the G-Class such impressive offroad ability. There are three locking differentials as well, and adaptive damping suspension, to help ensure that you always have adequate traction, no matter the surface. The G-Class has a ground clearance of 9.5 inches, and a fording depth of 27.5 inches, all of which adds up to some serious offroad ability.

Class-Leading Luxury
You can find other offroad vehicles that are derived from military vehicles. The Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender both used the WWII-era Jeep as a starting point. But neither of those has an interior like this. The G-Class comes with heated seats, front and rear, a heated steering wheel, and even heated and cooled cupholders, which are standard. Leather upholstery, a power sunroof, and an electrical-heated windshield also all come standard. Audiophiles will be happy to learn that the G-Class comes with an 18-speaker, 760-watt Burmester® 3D Surround Sound system that includes Dolby Atmos technology. Simply put, there is no other vehicle on the market that combines top-tier offroad ability with this level of luxury; the G-Class is in a segment all by itself.

Personalized Style
When it comes to equipment, there isn’t much on the G-Class that’s optional, beyond some offroad equipment that not every customer is going to use anyway, most things are standard. This is, until you get to personalization options. There are 31 paint colors available, and 11 wheel designs. Inside, you have even more options, including a huge range of upholstery choices and trim options in a whole range of wood types and carbon fiber. The steering wheel is covered in Nappa leather, and you can opt to upgrade this to two-tone leather, an option that’s also available for the dashboard. You can even choose a microfiber headliner and Nappa leather grab handles. You can get Mercedes-Benz lettering on your brake calipers, or a cherry wood luggage compartment floor. The G-Class has presence, all the more because of how easy Mercedes-Benz makes it for you to fine-tune exactly how you want it.
