The First of Its Kind: Introducing the 2015 Mercedes S550 Hybrid
At Mercedes-Benz of Easton we were excited to hear about the release of the new 2015 Mercedes S550 Hybrid. It is the first plug-in hybrid from the company, and features several innovations to make it one of the best on the market.
The new S-class hybrid features a 3.0L V-6 alongside an electric motor, both coupled with a seven-speed transmission. That combination generates 436 horsepower total, and fuel-economy estimates range from 26 MPG to 84 MPG, according to Car and Driver. The reason for such a disparity is that habits vary greatly from driver to driver. It is interesting to note the 114 horsepower electric motor can thrust the S-class to 87 mph without using the V-6 at all, though.
The 2015 Mercedes S550 Hybrid also has several driving modes which can be utilized to enhance the efficiency and driving experience. These include Hybrid, E-Save, and Charge. Hybrid tracks driving details and adjusts, E-Save runs the gasoline at minimal levels, and Charge uses the V-6 to restore the battery.
