Mercedes-Benz to add HUD System to New Models
Mercedes-Benz is taking a nod from video games in their newest technological adventure. They will be adding heads-up displays (HUD) in the 2014 S-Class and C-Class. In video games, a HUD shows players pertinent information such as health, mission stats, maps and objective indicators. The Mercedes-Benz HUD system will display speed, navigation data, and vital warning lights on the windshield. It also includes the possibility of night vision and other forward detection and sensory capabilities.
Mercedes-Benz is not the first luxury brand to add this to their cars and surprisingly was originally against the idea. They thought it would be a potential driver distraction but after other brands’ successes have changed their minds. BMW launched a HUD system in 2003 and Audi also offers it the A6 and A7 models. If the technology goes over well, the HUD feature will trickle down to the other Mercedes-Benz classes in the next few years.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been causing quite the stir since its announcement. It was completely redesigned for the 2014 model year and is fiercer than ever. Mercedes-Benz describes their philosophy for creating this car as “the best or nothing” so you know that they put everything into this car. It is set to arrive this fall at dealerships and we will keep you posted on details of its arrival to Mercedes-Benz of Easton.
