Mercedes Park Assist

One of the most difficult driving maneuvers there is, the parallel park, is something that most of us try to avoid at all costs. However, sometimes parallel parking may be the only option available. Luckily, Mercedes-Benz has come up with a way to take away all of the stresses associated with this tricky maneuver – its own version of park assist.

Mercedes self-parking option, Parktronic, is one of the best on the roads today. Drivers that have this technology in their car can relax while parallel parking as the car does all of the steering for them.

So how does it all work?

Once a driver has found an open spot, sensors located in the car’s bumpers scan the area to see what’s around and prompt the driver to start the system. When it’s on, the driver controls the acceleration and braking, while Parktronic does all the steering. The system uses rear, front and overhead cameras to give the driver a view on all sides of the car and also provides a digital representation of where the car is and where it is heading. When it is time to straighten the car out into the parking space, the car will let the driver know it’s time to shift into drive.
